The Shrimper Fleet captures the color and intricate rigging of the commercial shrimping fleet on a rare "return" to safe harbor in Conn Brown Harbor in Aransas Pass. This shot was what "launched" the brand, now known as J. Morris 683 Photography...a post on social media...and an inquiry as to whether I sold my work. My old roots to the west coast fishing industry run deep, and I still enjoy being on or around boats, and especially love work boats, the rigging, the colors, the ruggedness of the boats and the captain’s and crews that operate them.
At one time Aransas Pass was known as the Shrimp Capital of Texas, with a fleet of nearly 300 trawlers calling it home. Aransas Pass still hosts the wildly popular "Shrimporee", a festival steeped in tradition, hosting 45,000 visitors in a single weekend. This festival includes a Parade, Carnival, Shrimp Eating Contest, Great Outhouse Race, Men's & Women's Sexy Legs Contest, Live Culinary Tent, Over 100 Arts & Crafts Booths, and 2 Stages for Live Entertainment!!
"The fishermen know that the sea is dangerous and the storm terrible, but they have never found these dangers sufficient reason for remaining ashore."
~Vincent Van Gogh
