Relentless – Conditions here on the coast have been challenging to say the least…a relentless wind and hazy skies have dominated the landscape over the past week or so. Though I have shot most of these days, nothing has come out of these shoots that offered the inspiration that I usually find. Today was a little different…though not so much the conditions, but my view of the same. As I wandered out this morning, I really wanted to find something to work with, the windblown salt spray and sand that coats the lens adds to the challenge…seeking its way into the camera…an insidious and relentless attack. Maybe the solution was to be found from above…as I walked out, I was drawn to the pier, though seeking some protection from its heights peering down at the tempest. As I thought about a shot…something offering a break from the monotony of wind and a sky offering little of interest, I caught sight of another harbinger of spring on the coast, as three Black Skimmers passed by, gracing the shot, their low altitude precision flights a breakfast ballet seen from above.
“If you want to know why the coast is such an inspirational place, ask Herman Melville, Jack London, Nordhoff and Hall, Robert Louis Stevenson or Joseph Conrad. It's a glimpse of eternity. It invites rumination, the relentless whisper of the tide against the shore.”
