July Snapshot - Welcome New Members and a Sunset Series

So the last regular newsletter talked about a home improvement project I had embarked on...that project continues to this day...though I'm getting closer to the finish line.  Two ER visits, a family reunion and a long awaited fishing trip have all conspired to slow progress...but soon it will be done! My photography and my narratives and quotes are seen and shared everyday by a growing Facebook and Instagram audience.  Often times a shot is seen by a follower, and they connect to it and ask about a print, and I make that happen...all you have to do is ask...Contact me HERE  I'll extend a special offer to my newsletter and Blog followers...use coupon code "emerge25" and receive a 25% discount on any of my work on my website through the end of July as a way to celebrate our emergence from the past crazy year into a summer that feels somewhat normal!

After a week of gray, and 15” of rain my eyes needed some color, and as the day grew longer it appeared that we might indeed see some sunset color…though you never really know until it happens…clouds can move in, obscuring the sunset…or you can lose those “just right” clouds that make for the best sunsets and sunrises. Heading out early to give myself time to find the right place to be, I settled on Charlie’s Pasture…with light winds and people enjoying the evening as dolphin frolicked along the seawall, and birds looked for a last evening meal.

What's in a shot?  Seldom do I capture the image in just one shot...in this evening's shoot I took 223 shots over a period of about 50 minutes as the sun began it's journey below the horizon.  Ultimately I selected these four shots, and shot some video that I use in my near daily "Good morning Port Aransas, good morning Texas, good morning wherever you may be" videos that normally greet the new day and are posted on my FB and IG accounts, though in this case replace "morning" with evening.  Sunsets often surprise, as they progress...often being described as "getting better and better"...this was one of those.  The early images in this shoot only hinted at what was to come...glad I stayed!

Passing Through - As I played with camera setting and composition as a prelude to what developed into a beautiful summer  sunset in Port Aransas, Texas, a laughing gull came closer, wings spread and I quickly shifted to a vertical shot and got him as he passed though.  It's those little things that so often make a shot that other wise would have not made the cut otherwise.

Sinking - I'll be honest, I get out for way more sunrises than sunsets, hardly a day begins for me not on the beach as the sunrise beckons with the promise of the gift of a new day.  This time of the year though, the sun's position  over the often calm waters of the Aransas Channel makes these evening ventures a treat when conditions are right as they were this evening.  As the sun slowly sunk, gently touching the far shoreline it left kisses of light in it's wake on the calm waters...what's not to like!

Reflections from Above –  was pretty sure I was in the right place…as the show began the colors changing minute by minute…it was a great evening to be out as we watched the sun’s journey below the horizon signaling the end of the day!

"Sometimes, challenges and struggles are exactly what we need in our lives...May you welcome every                         effort, every struggle, and every challenge...May you open your wings and fly!"                      Miranda Kerr

The Day's End - as the evening progressed I was in awe of the changing colors, the reflections changing, pinks and golds intermixed with the beautiful blue skies above...it was a magical evening's celebration of the day's end in Port Aransas, Texas!  Do we take the time to celebrate all that life presents...even the little things like sunrises and sunsets that offer such magic?

"Life is too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat you right. Forget about those who don’t. Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would most likely be worth it."
